The IME Department is committed to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We offer rigorous, but also interesting, innovative and flexible curricula in a supportive and student-friendly environment. Responding to a recent survey, one of our students wrote, “Overall I find the BS Industrial Engineering program at NJIT to be extremely interesting and rewarding. I am proud to be part of the NJIT experience and would recommend this institute and its programs to others.” The pride of our students in us is a reflection of the pride we have in our students. We are proud of all 300 or so students enrolled in our programs, ranging from the 18-year old undergraduates, to the mature professionals who after years of work in industry, return to pursue the MS in Engineering Management. Their motivation and dedication, when combined with our curriculum, produce well-prepared graduates who have the potential to become very successful professionally whether they practice engineering, start their own business or move into other endeavors such as law or management.
IME faculty are engaged in a variety of research endeavors and primarily in the areas of Operations Research, Manufacturing Systems, Logistics/Supply Chain, Human Factors/Ergonomics, and Transportation. Faculty research efforts not only result in scientific publications and departmental visibility, but also enhance our students’ educational experience by bringing into the classroom the latest theoretical advances and state-of-the-art practices. In addition, a substantial portion of the research efforts are conduced in cooperation with industry or government organizations and the findings are used in practice to improve operations and processes.
